Tennis completes Day 1 at ITA Championships

TULSA, Okla.--The Colorado State women's tennis team finished its first day of competition at the ITA Central Region Championship in Tulsa, Okla. Thursday.
"Hilary played the No. 7 seed who was also a nationally-ranked player," Head Coach Jon Messick said. "She played tough, but just didn't get the points she needed.
In Round 1 of singles play, junior Lauren Strasburger and senior Hilary Tyler represented the Rams. Strasburger dropped her match to Alexandra Kichoutkin of Tulsa, 6-3, 6-1. Tyler was defeated by No. 88 Liz Ferris of Utah, 6-1, 7-6 (3), who was seeded No. 7 in the tournament. Both CSU players will face competition in the backdraw Friday.
"I am optimistic that Lauren and Hilary can go deep in the backdraw," Messick continued.
After a Round 1 bye in doubles, No. 11 seed Strasburger and Tyler faced Irna Tkachenka and Maryna Tkachenko of Oklahoma State, falling 8-6. The pair drops out of doubles competition and will compete solely in singles the remainder of the tournament.
Play resumes Friday at 9 a.m.
