TULSA, Okla. - The Colorado State women's tennis team completed its second and final day of play at the ITA Central Region Championships Friday. The Rams finish the fall tournament season with a 42-57 record in singles and a 19-20 mark in doubles.
"The scores didn't show it, but we were playing good tennis," Head Coach Jon Messick commented. "We just didn't get the breaks."
Competing solely in singles, CSU faced competition in the backdraw. Senior Hilary Tyler fell to No. 8 seed Jane Kryuchkova of Utah, 6-3, 6-2, and moves to 6-7 on the year. Junior Lauren Strasburger dropped her match to No. 5-seeded Polina Kokoulina of Boise State, 6-2, 6-1; she finishes the fall season with a 6-6 record.
"We were hoping to do better, but it's a tough tournament," Messick said. "We drew tough players in the backdraw and just didn't have enough."
The Rams return to the court Feb. 2 when they take on Illinois State in Lincoln, Neb., in their inaugural game of the 2007-08 spring season.
Friday's Results:
Jane Kryuchkova (Utah) def. Hilary Tyler (CSU); 6-3, 6-2
Polina Kokoulina (BSU) def. Lauren Strasburger (CSU); 6-2, 6-1
