Men's Golf Preview: Del Walker Intercollegiate

Next on the Tee
The Colorado State men's golf team will play at the Del Walker Intercollegiate on Oct. 25 - 26. The tournament, hosted by Long Beach State, will take place at the 6,633-yard Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, Calif. The 54-hole tournament will begin with Rounds 1 and 2 on Thursday at 7:30 a.m PDT. The final round will begin Friday at 7:30 a.m. PDT. In addition to CSU, 11 other teams will play in the tournament: Arizona, Houston, Long Beach State, North Texas, Pacific, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Jose State, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and Texas-
San Antonio.

Formidable Foes
Four the the teams teeing off at the Del Walker Intercollegiate are ranked in the Golfweek Top-100: Arizona (40), UC Irvine (51), Saint Mary's (53), UC Santa Barbara (57) and Pacific (88).

Club Glove Intercollegiate
The Colorado State men's golf team achieved its highest finish of this season with a fourth place performance at the Club Glove Intercollegiate in Somis, Calif., on Tuesday. In the process, the Rams toppled three Top-50 ranked schools including Lamar (11), Memphis (39) and LSU (47).

The Rams carded rounds of 311, 318, and 308 for a three-round total of 937.

Sophomore Dustin Morris led the Rams throughout the two-day tournament and finished in a tie for third, his career- and season-high finish. Morris carded a 76 in the first two rounds and a 75 in Round 3 for a three-round total of 227, 11 over par.

Zen Brown and Sean McNamara both tied for 32nd place. The finish was McNamara's career- and season-high finish. Brown and McNamara had three-round totals of 239, 23 over par. Brown bounced back from a second-round 87 to card a 75 in Round 3.

Bryce Hanstad and Riley Arp also competed for the Rams. Hanstad finished in a tie for 43rd and Arp finished in a tie for 49th.

Pepperdine took the team title and Joel Sjoholm from Georgia State University clinched individual honors.

Above the Rest
With a fourth-place finish in the Club Glove Intercollegiate, Colorado State ousted three nationally ranked Top 50 teams, Lamar, Memphis and LSU.

Lamar is ranked 11th nationally by Golfweek.com but finished in fifth place at the Club Glove Intercollegiate.

Memphis holds the 39th spot and finished in a tie for ninth and LSU, which ranks 47th, had a sixth-place showing at the Club Glove Intercollegiate.

Colorado State was unable to topple Pepperdine who won the tournament and is nationally ranked in 29th place.

Out of the 289 teams ranked in the nation, Colorado State holds the 101st spot.

In the Tops
The Rams posted a strong showing at the Club Glove Intercollegiate. Not only did the team outshine three nationally ranked teams, three Rams golfers now are placed on the Top-10 leaderboard for stroke average in the Mountain West Conference.

Bryce Hanstad leads the Ram pack with a fourth-place standing. After playing in four tournaments and 12 rounds, Hanstad holds a 73.67 stroke average.

Dustin Morris is ranked fifth with four tournaments played, 12 rounds and a 74 stroke average.

Zen Brown rounds out the three with a sixth-place standing. Brown has also competed in each tournament this season and holds a 74.42 stroke average.

UNLV, who is ranked 30th in the nation by Golfweek, is the only other school to have three golfers place in the Top 10. The UNLV golfers hold the top three spots.


So Far This Season


Wolf Pack Classic
Colorado State tied for sixth at the Wolf Pack Classic. Bryce Hanstad led the Rams and acheieved a tie for 13th with a final total of 215. Zen Brown missed a Top-20 finish by just one shot and finished in a tie for 22nd and a final score of 218. The University of Arizona took the team title.

Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic
Colorado State placed seventh at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic, led by Bryce Hanstad, who carded a 213 to finish tied for sixth. This is Hanstad's highest tournament finish this year. Zen Brown joined Hanstad in the Top 20 with a final score of 218 and a tie for 18th place. Sean McNamara and Praneeth Perera made their season debuts as individual players in the tournament. Michigan State University earned the team title, shooting a 7-over-par 847.

Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational
Colorado State placed eighth at the 2007 Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, led by Bryce Hanstad, who carded a 214 to finish tied for 10th. Iowa State University and Wichita State University tied for the team title, shooting a 12-under-par 852.
