Freshman Nya Mason tied her career-high with 14 points, but Colorado State (8-19, 3-11 MWC) was unable to recover from a game-opening scoring drought, falling to the Wyoming Cowgirls (18-8, 9-5 MWC), 72-37 at the Arena Auditorium in Moby Arena.
Wyoming jumped out to a 10-0 advantage in the game's first seven minutes before the Rams got on the board with a Mason jumper at the 12:52 mark. The Rams were held to a season-low 12 points in he first half, and Wyoming closed the period on a 6-0 run to push the lead to 19 points, 31-12 heading into the locker room.
The second half began much like the first for the Rams and Wyoming pushed the lead to 30 points by opening the second stanza on a 13-2 run that was snapped by a Mason jumper at the 13:51 mark.
Freshman guard Emily Neal heated up for the Rams for a stretch, scoring seven of the Rams next 11 points in the contest, but CSU was unable to gain ground on the Cowgirls, eventually falling 72-37.
Overall, the Rams were held to just 33.3 percent shooting, while Wyoming connected at a 45.5 percent clip for the contest. The Rams held the Cowgirls to just 4-for-15 shooting from 3-point range in the game, but CSU could not connect on any of its 10 attempts, marking the first time that the Rams were held without a 3-pointer since Jan. 17, 2002 at San Diego State, a span of 161 games.
The Rams will look to rebound from the loss on Saturday, March 3 in the regular-season finale at Moby Arena against the UNLV Lady Rebels. Senior night festivities will precede the game, as the Rams will honor the careers of seniors Justine France and Marilyn Moulton. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
