Ram Freshmen Lead Water Polo to Pair of Wins

San Bernardino, Calif. - Colorado State freshmen Sarah Ostling and Shannon Kohl combined for 12 goals to lead the Rams to a 13-6 win over Michigan State and a 16-3 victory over Macalester Saturday in non-conference water polo action. The games were the first two of a five-game set in the Coyote Classic hosted by Cal State San Bernardino.
Versus the Spartans, CSU held a 5-4 lead at the half before breaking open the game with four goals in each of the last two periods to claim the 13-6 win. Ostling scored four goals to lead the Rams while Emily Chambers, Kohl, Monica Schuh and Annie Quinn each had two. Andrea Lugo earned nine saves in goal for the Rams.
In the nightcap, CSU scored six unanswered goals in the first quarter before taking a 10-3 lead at the half and extending their lead to 16-3 by the game's end. Ostling and Kohl each had three goals while Laurien White, Quinn and Kathleen Armstrong each had two. Krystyna McCright recorded six saves in the game.
CSU (5-7) concludes play in the Coyote Classic on Sunday with games against Cal State San Bernardino, Notre Dame and Iona.
