La Jolla, Calif. - The Colorado State water polo team allowed seven unanswered goals to open the game and could never recover as No. 16 UC San Diego shut down the Rams 12-4 Thursday night in La Jolla, Calif.
CSU fought back to in the second period to trail 9-3 at halftime but the homestanding Tritons would crank up the defense in the seocond half allowing just one Ram goal in the third period and none in the fourth to hold on for the win.
CSU's goals came from Sarah Ostling, Shannon Kohl, Laurien White and Monica Schuh while UCSD's Sarah Bajorek and Judy Emavs each scored four.
The Rams (7-9) will play next Saturday and Sunday in the Claremont Colleges Tournament in Claremont, Calif.
