Colorado State University head men's basketball coach Tim Miles today announced the hiring of assistant coach Niko Medved to his staff.

"Niko was a young man I targeted immediately after I got this job to join our staff," said Miles. "I am thrilled he will be joining us."

Medved joins Colorado State after spending last season at the University of Minnesota. Prior to last year, he spent seven seasons as an assistant for Furman University, including the spring of 2006 where he was the interim head coach.

"I can't wait to get started for three main reasons," said Medved. "One: because it's Colorado State. Two: I'm looking forward to working with a great coach like Tim Miles, and three: because of the excitement and quality of the Mountain West Conference."

"He is an excellent coach, a terrific recruiter, deals very well with players and has great integrity and character," continued Miles. "I expect Niko to help CSU reach its goals."

Medved started his career at the University of Minnesota in 1992 when he was a student manager and spent one year as a student assistant. He also worked four years as an instructor at the prestigious Nike All-America camp.

Medved completed his B.S. in Kinesiology in 1997 and his Masters in Sport Management in 1999. While attending graduate school, he spent two seasons as the Associate Head Coach at Division III, Macalester College.

A native of St. Paul, Minn., Medved attended Roseville Area High School and was a two-sport standout in both basketball and golf.
