Rams Split in First Day of Aggie Shootout

Davis, Calif. - The Colorado State water polo team earned an 11-8 win and suffered a 10-2 loss in the first day of the Aggie Shootout hosted by the University of California Davis Saturday.
In the first contest, the Rams led Cal State Monterey Bay 6-5 at the half and broke open a 7-7 game with three unanswered goals from Sarah Ostling, Emily Chambers and Emily McCullough to lead 10-7 before closing the game with an 11-8 victory.
Ostling led CSU with four goals while Annie Quinn had three. Laurien White scored two goals and Chambers and McCullough each had one to round out Ram scoring. Defensively, Andrea Lugo had six saves in the game.
In the final game of the day, No. 20 Cal State Northridge scored the first three goals before CSU could get on the board. The Matadors then scored seven straight before the Rams scored late in the game to make the final count 10-2.
Ostling and teammate Kathleen Armstrong each had one goal for CSU. Laurien White ended a string of a school-record 14-straight games with a goal when she failed to score vs. CS Northridge. Krystyna McCright had seven saves in the game.
CSU will play Cal State San Bernardino and No. 19 Santa Clara Sunday to round out play in the tournament.
