Colorado State junior Emily Pearson finished third at the Mountain West Conference Championships in the heptathlon with 5,183 points, while junior Tonya Cure finished fifth with 4,981 points.

 

Freshmen Sonni Russell and Kristen Kugler ended in 10th and 11th positions, respectively, while freshman Doug Dieker placed eighth in the decathlon with 6,083 points.

 

Pearson led the competition after the first day with 3,293 points. She long jumped 16-9.5, threw 131-9 to win the javelin and ran a 2:35.30 to end the day. Cure leaped 16-11.25 in the long jump, threw a personal best 127-5 in the javelin and ran a 2:17.93 in the 800 meters.

 

Russell started the day with a jump of 15-6.25, threw 99-11 in the javelin and ran a 2:39.96 in the 800 meters, while Kugler jumped 16-0.5 in the long jump, threw 71-9 in the javelin and ran a 2:33.99 in the 800.

 

Dieker began day two by running a personal best 16.39 in the 110 meter hurdles. He then cleared 15-1 to finish second in the pole vault, threw a personal best 125-1 in the javelin and ran a personal best 4:51.75 in the 1500 meters. Dieker's total is over 200 points better than his previous personal best of 5,801 from the Cal Invitational.

 

Colorado State is currently tied for the lead on the women's side with 10 points, while the men's team has one point. The Rams will continue competition at the Mountain West Conference Championship tomorrow morning at the San Diego State Sports Deck.
