Colorado State's Zen Brown continued the school's recent dominance in the Colorado Golf Association's Match Play Championship, capturing the tournament title on Friday at Bear Creek Golf Club. Rams head coach Jamie Bermel made the announcement.

Brown, a junior out of Pomona High School in Arvada, knocked off Tom Glissmeyer with scores of 10 and 9 at Bear Creek Golf Club to win the 107th edition of the competition. One year after finishing runner-up to Colorado State teammate Aaron Weston, Brown won the competition, his second individual CGA championship. He also won the 2005 CGA Public Links.

According to the CGA, Brown will have his name engraved on the prestigious Richard C. Campbell trophy, joining legends such as Steve Jones, Hale Irwin, Babe Lind and Brandt Jobe.

Also Friday night, Bermel said senior Derrick Whiting earned All-America Scholar honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America. The honor, sponsored by Cleveland Golf, marks the second time Whiting has garnered such recognition. The criteria for Division I eligibility among juniors and seniors includes a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and a 76.0 stroke average. Whiting majored in speech communications.
