FORT COLLINS, Colo. - - Colorado State's women's tennis team travels to Salt Lake City, Utah, to compete in the ITA Central Regional Championships this week. Junior Laura Neal and freshman Tori Arneson will represent the Rams at the regional tournament in the main draw of the singles and doubles brackets.

"As far as expectations, it will be an extremely tough tournament," said Head Coach Jon Messick. "In a tournament such as this, you hope to get a favorable draw in the early rounds. A lot depends on what kind of matchup you get in your first match or so.

"Our players will need to play extremely well, in any case, and we feel we have the ability to get wins in the tough field."

The ITA Central Region Championships is a tournament that brings together all of the players in the Central Region to one competition. There are a total of 36 teams in the region, which includes teams from the Mountain West, Big 12,Western Athletic, Missouri Valley, Conference USA, Big Sky and Sun Belt. Players are selected to go straight into the main draw or they can be selected for a qualifying draw.

The results from the tournament will have an impact on the fall rankings but they have little significance compared to the spring. For the Rams, the tournament will give Messick a chance to see how his players have progressed compared to the other players in the region.

Play is set to begin Wednesday at 8 a.m. at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center with two rounds of singles.
