FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Former CSU basketball standout Jason Smith was selected to the Mountain West Conference Men’s Basketball 10th Anniversary Team, the conference announced this week.
All candidates had to be selected as an all-Mountain West first-team selection at least once in their careers. Smith earned that honor twice. The team was selected by media panels, institutional and conference personnel and an on-line fan poll.
Smith, who played three seasons at CSU before being selected in the first round of the NBA draft, earned first-team all-Mountain West Conference honors during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. He was also named MWC Freshman of the Year in 2004-05.
Smith is second all-time in CSU history with 24 career double-doubles and still holds multiple top 10 spots in the Rams’ record books. Smith is third all-time in rebounds in a season with 304 in 2006-07, fifth all-time with a career field-goal percentage of .579 and seventh in career blocks with 102. In his final season with the Rams, Smith averaged 16.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. His rebound average was first in the MWC and ninth in the nation.
Smith is currently in his second season with the Philadelphia 76ers. In his first season, Smith played an average of 14.57 minutes per game and recorded 3.03 rebounds and 4.47 points per game.
