LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Senior guard Sara Hunter, the Rams' leading scorer, earned Mountain West Conference all-tournament team honors on Saturday. The selection was made following the championship game of the tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Hunter averaged 15.0 points per game during the Rams' run to the semifinal round of the tournament this week. In the Rams' victory over UNLV in the play-in game, Hunter led CSU to its first victory in 21 games with a 16-point effort to take down the Lady Rebels on their home court.
The Fort Collins native then led the Rams to one of the biggest upsets in school history, scoring 14 points in a 60-52 win over No. 12 Utah. The win snapped a 22-game win streak for Utah, the longest active streak in the country, and marked the Rams' first victory over a ranked opponent since November 2001 (No. 14 Colorado).
In the Rams' season-ending game against eventual champion New Mexico, Hunter tallied 15 points, adding three 3-pointers to her tournament total of eight. Also in that contest, Hunter moved into 11th on the Rams' all-time scoring list.
Hunter becomes the first Ram to earn MWC all-tournament honors since 2002 (Angie Gorton). On Monday Hunter, who was a third-team all-conference selection in 2007, earned all-MWC honorable mention.
