TEMPE, Ariz. -- Colorado State men's golf holds third place after one round of play at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational on Friday at the ASU Karsten Golf Course.  Arizona State's A and B teams are tied for first.

"We played pretty solid," Head Coach Jamie Bermel said.  "We played the back nine first and when we got to the front nine, we had good chances to make some birdies."

Zen Brown leads the Rams in a tie for third place with a first-round 68, 3-under-par.  Brown opened the tournament with an eagle and carded three birdies throughout the day.

Riley Arp is tied for 11th with a total of 70, 1-under-par, recording five birdies.

"Riley really played well," Bermel said.  "It was fun to watch him play solid."

Bryce Hanstad opened with a birdie and carded four additional birdies.  Hanstad is tied for 18th place with a first-round 71, even-par.  Dustin Morris is also tied for 18th.  Morris carded an eagle on the eighth hole of play and recorded five birdies.

Sean McNamara is tied for 85th place with a first-round 81, 10-over-par.

The Rams will continue play Saturday at 8:30 a.m. MDT.  Live scoring of the event will be available on www.golfstat.com.

"We just need to go out there and be patient," Bermel said.  "We need to do the same as today."
