CSU men's golf ties for third in Arizona

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Colorado State men's golf team tied for a third place finish with Texas A&M on Sunday after three days of play at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational. The finish marks the end of the Rams regular season play.
Fort Collins native, Riley Arp, birdied two holes in the final round to secure a tie for third, 1-under-par (70-70-72 - 212). The finish marks Arp's collegiate season and all-time high tournament finish.
"I made a concentrated effort to walk with him today," Head coach, Jamie Bermel, said. "That seemed to work."
Dustin Morris finished in a tie for 16th, 3-over-par (71-73-72 - 216). Morris was tied for 21st after two rounds but came back to shoot four birdies in the final round to secure the finish.
Zen Brown held second place after two rounds but finished in a tie for 28th, 5-over-par (68-69-81 - 218). Brown shot even par on the majority of the final round holes, but carded seven bogies.
"He got to the point where he was trying too hard," Bermel said. "I'm pretty disappointed for him."
To round out the scoring for the Rams, Bryce Hanstad finished in a tie for 46th, 9-over-par (71-77-74 - 222). Sean McNamara tied for 76th (81-76-73 - 230).
The team's tie for third marks the Rams' tenth Top 20 and ninth Top 10 finish of the season.
Arizona State took home the team title for the first time since 2004. Espen Kofstad of Denver University earned individual honors.
The Rams will again travel to Arizona to compete in the Mountain West Conference Championships, April 24-26 at the Catalina Golf Course at Tucson National in Tucson.
"Three of our guys have played there before," Bermel said of the Championships. "We are looking forward to it."
