FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Eager to take the court to begin the new season at Moby Arena, the Colorado State University men’s and women’s basketball teams released schedules for the 2008-09 seasons on Saturday.
Men’s basketball Head Coach Tim Miles’ second season at the helm of the Rams’ program features one of the most exciting home schedules in school history, as the Rams play host to Tubby Smith and the Minnesota Golden Gophers (Nov. 22), as well as 2008 NCAA tournament participants including Pac-10 power Stanford (Dec. 14) and Mountain West Con foes BYU (Jan. 10) and UNLV (Jan. 14).
The women’s basketball slate appears just as challenging and exciting. First-year Head Coach Kristen Holt leads the new-look Rams against a host of teams coming off of postseason success in 2007-08, including a Nov. 28 matchup with Florida State as part of the annual Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational (CRMI). CSU’s fate in the second round of the CRMI could also hold a matchup with Ohio Valley tournament champions, Murray State.
The men’s basketball slate also features at least 14 games televised nationally and regionally, beginning with the Nevada Wolfpack on Dec. 2 (The Mtn.). The Rams home contest against Stanford will be televised nationally on CBS College Sports, and 12 of the Rams’ 16 MWC contests will be televised on The Mtn.
The men’s program will close out their non-conference schedule, Dec. 27-30, at the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. The tournament schedule has yet t o be finalized, but will feature host Hawaii, Colorado, Coppin State, Buffalo, George Washington, Pepperdine and Vermont.
The women’s schedule, once again, features games against four in-state rivals. The Rams travel to Boulder, Colo., to take on 2008 WNIT semi-finalists Colorado and play host to Denver (Dec. 3) and Northern Colorado (Dec. 6), as part of their non-conference schedule. The women will also play a pair of televised games against Air Force, Jan. 20 in Colorado Springs, Colo., and Feb. 21 at Moby Arena. Both games will be broadcast on The Mtn.
Like the men, the women’s team will also head for warm weather close out 2008 at the Star Shuttle New Year’s Classic, Dec. 29-30, in San Antonio, Texas. The Rams open the tournament against host and 2008 NCAA tournament participant Texas-San Antonio, before taking Prairie View A&M, who earned a WNIT berth to close the 2007-08 season.
