GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado State University swim team was busy breaking records Saturday at the Rocky Mountain Invite in Golden, Colo.  CSU swimmers set a total of eight new pool records at the Colorado School of Mines Natatorium, while grabbing their second win of the season and highlighting their non-conference swimmers.

The Rams shattered Orediggers’ records in the 200 Medley Relay, the 1650 Free, the 200 Free, the 400 IM, the 200 Back, the 500 Free and the 200 Breast.

The Rocky Mountain Invite was used as a building block for the less-experienced swimmers to prove their value to the team. One conference swimmer topped the roster on all events, while two non-conference swimmers were allotted the remaining two spots.  All the athletes stepped up to the challenge, as CSU took first, second and third-place in nine of the 11 events.

The Rams finished first against the four collegiate teams they faced: Mines, the host team, Adams State, Nebraska-Kearney and Metro State.

“It established some depth,” said Head Coach John Mattos. “The girls got to see they can go one, two, three against teams in this neck of the woods.”

Mattos hopes the team stays healthy heading into next week. The Rams face TCU in their home-opener, which is also their first conference dual-meet, on Thursday at 4 p.m. CSU then travels to the Air Force Academy on Saturday to face off against the Falcons, New Mexico and San Diego State beginning at 1 p.m.
