LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Colorado State tennis concluded play in the ITA Mountain Region Championship Saturday finishing the backdraws with a win.
Senior Laura Neal and sophomore Caitlin Fluegge defeated their UNLV opponents Ella Bourchier and Rumyana Terzieva, 8-5, concluding their backdraw competition.
“I thought we played well today, but I think we struggled with UNLV’s style of play,” Head Coach Jon Messick said. “UNLV was hitting the ball softer than our previous opponents, and they (Neal and Fluegge) had to adjust to that. They did a nice job adjusting.”
The Rams were scheduled to play two doubles matches Saturday, but because of a default the second CSU team did not compete.
Lauren Mulhern and Veronika Wojakowska were set to face off against the Boise State team of Stephanie Jasper and Bianca Jochimsen. Jasper and Jochimsen defaulted due to illness, giving Mulhern and Wojakowska the win.
The ITA Mountain Region Championship was the final tournament of the fall season for CSU. The Rams will now begin focusing on their dual matchups which begin on Jan. 22 against at DU.
