Rams picked to finish sixth in WWPA by coaches

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Following a disappointing finish in the Western Water Polo Association last year, the CSU women aren’t the only ones who believe they can improve.
Earlier this week, the preseason WWPA Coaches Poll results were released and the Rams garnered 50 points, placing them sixth out of the 11 teams.
“Being sixth in the preseason poll is a good starting point for our team this year,” assistant coach Mike Moody said.
After struggling through a big part of last season, the Rams know that they can do better this year, and it looks like the competition thinks so, too.
“I believe the coaches in our conference respect us and understand that last year’s team was going through some tough growing pains,” Moody said. “They expect us to be competitive and so do we.”
Although the team still has goals of reaching the peak of the WWPA, it feels confident that this is a good stepping stone.
“Being sixth is not where we want to end up,” Moody said, “But it is a good start and gives us a chance to improve and move up in the rankings.”
Loyola Marymount was picked to finish first, gaining all but one of the maximum number of first-place votes. The Lions were followed by UC San Diego, who picked up the other first-place vote, Santa Clara, and Cal State Bakersfield.
Sonoma State was chosen one spot ahead of the Rams in fifth. Following CSU was Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State East Bay, UC Santa Cruz, and Chapman in 11th.
