The tournament will feature a four-team round-robin format on Saturday, with championship and third place games being played Sunday. Among the competition the Rams will face is the fifth-ranked team in the nation, the California Golden Bears. Also playing this weekend are teams from Fresno Pacific and CSU’s Western Water Polo Association foe UC Santa Cruz.
Although the Rams struggled through their first tournament, the Michigan Kickoff Jan. 24-25 – at which they faced two top 10 teams -- they believe they are prepared for the tests this weekend, and like usual, teamwork is their No. 1 weapon.
“I believe playing together as a team and sticking to the game plan will help us be successful this weekend,” assistant coach Mike Moody said.
A huge bright spot from their first tournament in Michigan was the play of senior captain Emily Chambers. Moody expects her to continue leading the team.
“Her game experience and her leadership are keys for us to be successful this weekend and this season,” Moody said.
Moody also recognized that other players must come through for the team, such as goaltender Krystyna McCright, attacker Ali Pavlik, and defender Kailin Custy.
Even though the Rams are stuck facing some great opponents again this weekend, they think they have what it takes to leave this weekend feeling good, and they won’t be intimidated.
“I believe we will be competitive with every team here,” Moody said.
