FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State will open up its outdoor track and field season on Saturday when the Rams head to Boulder, Colo., to take part in the CU Potts Invitational, hosted by Colorado.
The meet will feature a strong field, including host Colorado, local rival Northern Colorado and Mountain West conference rival Wyoming.
“This is an optional meet for our athletes,” said Head Coach Brian Bedard. “It’s over spring break so it gives the kids that stayed in the area a good opportunity to see where they are at as we transition into the outdoor season.”
On the women’s side, 12 CSU athletes are scheduled to compete. Leading the way for the Rams are Tanesha Johnson and Jennifer Ugochukwu, who both earned all-conference honors during the recently-completed indoor season. Johnson is scheduled to compete in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and triple jump, while Ugochukwu will take part in all three throwing events (shot put, discus, hammer throw).
A small contingent of CSU athletes will make up the CSU team for Saturday’s meet. Sprinter Sulaiman Sayyid and high-jumper Kevin Wills will headline the Rams entry. Sayyid posted the top times in the 55 meter and 60 meter dash events during the indoor season, while Willis earned all-conference honors at the MWC indoor meet.
Following Saturday’s meet, the Rams will make their 2009 debut at the Jack Christiansen track at Colorado State, as the Rams will host the Jack Christiansen Invitational on March 28.
