Rams finish eighth at National Invitational Tournament

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Colorado State men’s golf team posted its eighth top-10 finish of the season on Monday, claiming eighth place at the National Invitational Tournament at OMNI Tucson National Golf Club. CSU fired a three-round team total of 880 (+16).
Junior Bryce Hanstad closed the tournament as the Rams’ top finisher, notching his team-best sixth top-20 finish of the season. Hanstad, who carded rounds of 73 and 69 on Monday, posted a 4-over 76 during Tuesday’s final round to capture a share of 18th place in the 85-player field.
Junior Dustin Morris bounced back from an opening round of 77, posting a 2-under 71 on Monday afternoon and a 1-over 73 on Tuesday to climb into a tie for 29th overall at 5-over 221. Junior Riley Arp and senior Zen Brown fired a 75 and a 77, respectively, in their third rounds to finish tied for 35th at 6-over 222, one stroke off of Morris’ pace.
Freshman Zahkai Brown rounded out play tied for 56th at 10-over par, while sophomore Ryan Peterson, competing as an individual, recorded rounds of 74, 75 and 75 to end in a tie for 43rd.
Mountain West Conference rivals New Mexico (-14), TCU (-3) and UNLV (-1) finished first, third and fourth, respectively, while host Arizona (-7) captured second and Cal (+4) rounded out the top 5.
New Mexico’s Nick Geyer took home medalist honors, firing a 9-under 207, two strokes better than TCU’s James Sacheck.
Colorado State will close out March next week at the Shocker Classic in Wichita, Kan., March 30-31.
