FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State men’s basketball signee Greg Smith has been named “Mr. Basketball” in the state of Nebraska for the 2008-09 season. The award is given each year to the top high school player in the state.
“We are very proud of Greg,” said CSU Head Coach Tim Miles. “He had an outstanding senior season punctuated by his team’s state championship. I am excited about his future with CSU Basketball.”
Smith, who signed with Colorado State on Nov. 12, led Ralston High School in 2009 to its first Class B state championship in 45 years. The 6-6 senior forward scored 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the championship game against Beatrice and averaged 18.7 points and 9.0 rebounds during his senior season. Smith was also named to the all-Nebraska first team and selected as the team’s captain.
In 2008, Smith was chosen to the all-Nebraska second team while current Colorado State guard Jesse Carr was selected to the first team. The two played together for two summers on the Bison Red AAA team.
Injury update
CSU announced Thursday that Carr has sustained a pelvis injury and could be out approximately 6-8 months, while forward Andy Ogide may miss six weeks with right great toe injury.
