SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Playing in the final tournament of her career, senior Emily Chambers scored three times against UC Santa Cruz in Colorado State's 8-7 consolation semifinal victory at the Western Water Polo Association championship tournament Saturday at the Sullivan Aquatics Center.

Chambers, CSU's lone senior, did all she could all game long for the Rams.

"She was determined not to lose that game," coach Mike Moody said. "She really stood out and played well and put the team on her back."

The Rams also had two goals from Ali Pavlik and Kallie Berry, and Sarah Ostling added one in the win.

Things looked bad early for the Rams, as they found themselves down 4-0 at the end of the first quarter. But the Rams came up with six goals in the second half to come from behind for the victory.

"We started really slow," Moody said. "We just kept working in the second half."

The win clinches for the Rams their best season in school history with at least a sixth-place finish in store. The importance of the victory was not lost on Moody.

"We made history today," Moody said.

With the win, the Rams advance to play UC San Diego Sunday at 12 p.m. MT. UC San Diego entered the tournament seeded fourth but suffered a first-round loss to fifth-seeded Sonoma State. The Rams lost in a close match against the Tritons in their second-to-last regular season game, 8-7. Moody believes that CSU can take fifth-place in the rematch against UC San Diego.

"We have a chance to redeem ourselves," Moody said. "We need better ball control and shooting percentages. We have a chance to finish fifth.
