SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The CSU water polo team (16-17, 11-7 Western Water Polo Association) saw its season end Sunday, losing to UC San Diego 14-9 in its last game of the WWPA championships at the Sullivan Aquatics Center.

Emily Chambers notched a hat trick in the final game of her collegiate career for the Rams, in what also a concluded a terrific weekend for the senior. The trick was her second of the weekend and gives her a career total of 15. Chambers earned second-team all tournament honors from the WWPA.

"She's going to be hard to replace," coach Mike Moody said. "She went out the way you're supposed to as a senior. She played fantastic. We'll miss her next year."

CSU was holding tight throughout the first half, finding itself down only 6-4 with two quarters to go. But the Tritons opened things up in the third quarter and the Rams entered the fourth down 11-5.

"We just couldn't pull it out today," Moody said.

Ali Pavlik also had a hat trick, and Kallie Berry, Kailin Custy, and Sarah Ostling all had goals in the defeat.

The tournament still had plenty of success for the Rams. CSU finishes the season sixth in the conference, the highest it has ever placed in the history of the program, which is five years old.

"They played well all weekend," Moody said. "We did what we needed to do. I am really proud of the girls in this tournament."

Finishing this well leaves a lot of high expectations for the Rams in the future. Expectations that Moody believes can be reached. In losing only one senior after this season, there is plenty of talent with which to work.

"We have a strong group coming back," Moody said. "The girls are hungry and looking forward to next year."
