FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State senior Alex Godell has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII first team the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
Godell, a senior thrower from Centennial, Colo., recently completed his degree in economics at CSU with a 3.94 grade point average. Last season, Godell earned third-team ESPN Academic All-America honors. He has earned four straight Mountain West Scholar Athlete awards, as well as being named the winner of the 2007 Merril Gheen and 2008 Dick Kitamura scholarships.
On the track, Godell is preparing for his first appearance at the NCAA national championship meet, June 10-13 at the University of Arkansas. Godell will compete in the hammer throw and earned his spot at the meet after a third-place finish at the NCAA Midwest regional meet last weekend. Godell has captured the MWC hammer throw title in each of the past three seasons and has the eighth-best mark in the country this season.
By earning first-team all-district honors, Godell will once again be in the running for Academic All-America honors this season.
