FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State men’s basketball Head Coach Tim Miles announced Wednesday the hiring of Joe Kittell as the Rams’ video coordinator.
“It is great to welcome Joe to our staff at Colorado State,” said Miles. “He has been associated with winning basketball at every level and will be a tremendous asset to our program.”
Kittell, a former student assistant under Miles at North Dakota State (2002-06), joins the Rams after spending one season as a director for Every Child’s Important (ECI) Youth Services, a non-profit organization that runs summer traveling basketball teams in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. Kittell also worked as an assistant boy’s basketball coach at Breckenridge (Minn.) High School prior to coming to CSU.
A 2002 graduate of Garrison (N.D.) High School, Kittell earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 2006 and master’s degree in Health, Nutrition, and Exercise Science in 2008, both at North Dakota State.
Kittell worked with Miles’ staff for four seasons while pursuing his degree at NDSU. During his time in Fargo, the Bison recorded four straight winning seasons, and in 2004 made the transition from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I.
In 2006 Kittell worked with Rams assistant Craig Smith, then the head coach at Mayville State University. During his time on Smith’s staff at Mayville State, the Comets went 27-9, won the Dakota Athletic Conference championship, and made the NAIA Division II national championship game.
In 2007-08 he was the assistant men's basketball coach at North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) an NJCAA Division I program, where the team went 25-6 and won the Mon-Dak Conference tournament.
Kittell replaces Mark Graupe, who left Colorado State at the end of the 2008-09 season to take an assistant coaching job at Dartmouth.
