SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has named two CSU tennis athletes among its 2009 all-academic award recipients after their performances on the court and in the classroom last year, the organization announced recently.

Senior Laura Neal and sophomore Tori Arneson led the team last season both on and off the court. The two combined for 28 singles victories while still maintaining a GPA above 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.

Neal has maintained a 3.93 GPA throughout her collegiate career, which has also earned her three consecutive MWC Scholar Athlete awards. Last season Neal was second to teammate Arneson in singles victories with 13 and first on the team in doubles wins with 15. Neal was also named a 2009 MWC academic all-conference award winner.

“Every year Laura has set the standard for academic success for our program,” Head Coach Jon Messick said.

In her freshman season, Arneson earned a 3.79 GPA and the most singles wins on the team with 15. Arneson’s 3.79 GPA also named her 2009 MWC academic all-conference and a 2009 MWC Scholar Athlete.

“We have been very pleased to see Tori come in as a freshman last year and excel both as an athlete and as a student,” Messick added.
