BOULDER, Colo. – Colorado State tennis concluded its first day of competition in Boulder, Colo., at the CU Invitational Friday afternoon, with the Rams only two competitors, Laura Neal and Tori Arneson, sent to backdraw competition for Saturday.
It was a tough day for CSU at the CU Invitational, as both Neal and Arneson were defeated in the first rounds of the “Gold” draw singles competition by two tough opponents. Neal was defeated by Kate Lukomskaya of Arkansas, 6-3, 6-0, and Arneson lost to Abbie Probert of tournament host CU, 6-3, 6-0.
Neal and Arneson teamed up in doubles competition to take on the Arkansas team of Lukomskaya and Kelsey Sundaram, but fell, 8-4.
“We had difficult matches right out of the start,” Head Coach Jon Messick said. “We drew two of the toughest competitors in the first round and it was a tough way to start off the tournament. I think tomorrow will be better.”
Neal and Arneson are set to begin the “Gold” flight backdraw competition Saturday morning, as Coach Messick and the rest of the CSU lineup will head north to Laramie, Wyo., for the Wyoming Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
