SAN DIEGO, Calif. - A season high of 35 turnovers was the determining factor in a 59-38 loss to San Diego State at Viejas Arena on Saturday.
The Rams now fall to 11-9 overall and 3-4 in conference play and the Aztecs are now 13-6, 5-2 this season with nine games remaining in the regular season.
"Really ugly game, a lot of turnovers for us," said Head Coach Kristen Holt. "They played sloppy, but we were worse."
Just 4 minutes into the game CSU had already given up six turnovers. They had four steals at that point as well, but were unable gain any points off the thefts. The Rams stole the ball three more times in the first 20 minutes of play and ended up with a season-high 17 on the afternoon.
Freshman Chantel Kennedy had five steals on the night, four of those coming in the first half.
The Rams held the Aztecs to within eight up until the 13 minute mark of the second half, but San Diego State was then able to pull away for the 21-point win.
Colorado State only hit one three-pointer Saturday, credit to junior Bonnie Barbee who came away with eight points. The Rams dropped only three of 31 on the two-game road trip.
Sophomore Chatilla van Grinsven was 9-10 in free throws in this week's road trip at TCU and San Diego State. Her season free throw percentage jumped from 69.1 to 71.4 in the two games.
The Rams now head home for a matchup vs. Utah on Wednesday at Moby Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. MT.
