To wrap up play this fall, CSU heads out west to Fairfax, Calif., for the Alister Mackenzie Invitational. The 54-hole tournament begins with two rounds on Monday and finishes with the final round Tuesday morning. The Rams claimed ninth in the 15-team field last year, when the tournament was cut short by one round due to rain. Live scoring for the Mackenzie Invite will be available on golfstat.com.
The course
The tournament will be held at the 6,708-yard, par-71 Meadows Club. The Meadows Club was designed by tournament-namesake Alister Mackenzie. After building the Fairfax, Calif., course in 1927, MacKenzie later built Augusta National Golf Club with golf legend Bobby Jones.
The field
The 16- team field, including three Mountain West Conference teams, is comprised of Cal, Colorado, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawai’i, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oregon, Oregon State, Penn State, San Diego State, San Francisco, San Jose State, UC-Davis, UC-Irvine and Wisconsin.
Rams lineup
Ryan Peterson, Zahkai Brown, Kory Harrell, Kirby Pettitt and Scott Newton will be golfing for Head Coach Jamie Bermel in Fairfax this week. Peterson leads the Mountain West with his 71.22 strokes-per-round average. Also in the MWC’s top five is Harrell. The Colorado native boasts a 72.22 average through three tournaments this season. Brown and Pettitt are 13th in conference stroke average with 73.67, just two-thirds of a stroke from the top 10.
