FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Allison Morales and Emma O’Connell, two high-school All-Americans, have joined the Colorado State swimming & diving program, Head Coach John Mattos announced Friday.
Both athletes signed National Letters of Intent this week during the early signing period and will join the team in time for the 2011-12 season.
Morales hails from Canyon Country, Calif. A four-year letterwinner at Canyon High School, she earned All-America honors on a strong 200 Medley Relay team, which also posted first-place finishes at both the CIF Masters and Millikan Relays. She also owns her school record in the 500 Freestyle, and competed for the Class Aquatics club team.
In addition, Morales this past spring received an invitation to compete at the Olympiad of Mexico, a national competition that took place in April in Puerto Vallarta. She was eligible because her father was born in Mexico.

O’Connell joins the Rams from Omaha, Neb., where she has earned four letters at Millard West High School. A three-time state champion (2008-10) in the 100 Freestyle, she also captured the Nebraska crown in the 50 Free in 2008, and helped the Wildcats’ relay team to state titles in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Her times in the 100 Free (2008, 2009 and 2010), and various relay teams (2008-10) qualified for All-America status.
The 2008 MWHS Swimmer of the Year, she has led her school to the last three Nebraska team titles, and two consecutive Metro Conference championships.
O’Connell, whose great uncle, Art Mindheim, swam at Washington State, also lettered in tennis and swam for the Millard Aquatic Club.
