CSU's Franklin named MWC Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State senior Travis Franklin has been named the Mountain West Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week for games through December 26. It marks the first career weekly accolade for Franklin.
Franklin led Colorado State to a 4-0 record over a five-day span last week, beginning with a home win over in-state rival Northern Colorado on Monday, and culminating with the Cancun Governor's Cup championship in Cancun, Mexico, over the holiday weekend. The senior forward earned tournament MVP honors after helping the Rams to wins against Appalachian State, Mississippi, and Southern Mississippi.
Hailing from Baton Rouge, La., Franklin opened the week with 16 points in a 75-61 victory over UNC. He went 12-of-15 from the free throw line while adding a career-high five steals, three rebounds and one assist. At the Cancun Governor's Cup, Franklin kicked off tournament action with 21 points in an 82-79 win against Appalachian State, knocking down 9-of-14 free throws to go with 6-of-11 shooting from the field. In addition, he recorded four rebounds, th ree assists and two steals. In a 68-61 semifinal triumph over Ole Miss, Franklin netted a game-high 21 points along with five rebounds, three assists and one steal. He went 4-of-5 from the field and converted a career-high 13 free throws in 14 attempts. Franklin closed out tournament play with a career-high 25 points, nine rebounds, three steals and one assist in the championship meeting with Southern Miss. He shot 8-of-12 from the field and was 9-of-12 from the free throw line, including 7-of-8 in the final three minutes, to help the Rams hold on for the 63-58 victory and tournament crown.
For the week, Franklin averaged 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 2.0 assists, while shooting 58.8 percent (20-of-34) from the field and 78.2 percent (43-of-55) from the free throw line.
