The Rams water polo team has been picked to finish sixth in the Western Water Polo Association according to the preseason WWPA Coaches' Poll released Jan. 25.

CSU finished sixth last season, the best conference ranking in the five-year history of the program. The Rams went 16-17 overall and boasted an 11-7 record against WWPA opponents, a large improvement from their 2008 record of 10-26 (8-15 WWPA).

The Rams (0-4, 0-0 WWPA) face their first conference competition in Bakersfield, Calif. Jan. 12-14 as they play five different teams in three days, three of which are against WWPA foes (Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay).

Last year's conference champion Loyola Marymount was picked to repeat, receiving eight of 10 possible first-place votes. LMU is followed by Cal State Bakersfield (two first-place votes), Santa Clara, UC San Diego, Sonoma State and CSU.

Cal State East Bay, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Bernardino and Chapman round out the last four spots.
