PRINCETON, N.J. - The CSU Rams women's water polo team finished the Princeton Invite 2-2, going 1-1 on both days of the tournament. CSU lost to No. 20 Princeton on Saturday night and No. 12 Hartwick on Sunday morning. The Rams rebounded to defeat Iona in their fourth game of the weekend.
CSU (4-9, 1-2 Western Water Polo Association) fell behind early against Princeton and trailed 7-3 at half time. The Rams fought hard to score five goals in the final two frames, but it wasn't enough, as the Tigers won 12-8. CSU got goals from six different players in the defeat.
Early Sunday morning, CSU faced a tough challenge against Hartwick. In the first ever meeting between the two schools, Hartwick came away with a 16-11 victory. Sarah Ostling posted a hat trick, and Ali Pavlik and Caroline Young each scored twice for the Rams.
The Rams returned to the pool for their last game of the weekend against Iona and controlled the first three quarters. Iona scored five times in the fourth to make it a tight game, but the Rams pulled out a 9-8 win. Ostling, Young and Pavlik each had two goals to help give the Rams their fourth win of the season.
Next up for the Rams is a road contest at Long Beach State on March 13.
