RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Kallie Berry scored four goals and Melissa Fisher made 13 saves as the Rams defeated Cal Baptist Monday morning at the Redlands Mini-Tournament at the Thompson Aquatic Center.
CSU (6-12, 1-2 Western Water Polo Association) then lost its afternoon match against Marist, 12-6.
The Rams defeated a Cal Baptist Lancers squad that was receiving votes in the most recent national poll. The 7-5 win was led by Berry's four goals, and CSU also got production from Ali Pavlik, who got two, and Orsi Nadasdy.
The four goals were a season high for Berry, but coach Mike Moody said that everyone had a hand in the victory.
"It was a total team effort and Melissa Fisher was great in goal," Moody said. "We let down in the second, but we finished strong in the fourth to finish it off. It was a big win for the program."
The afternoon game for the Rams against Marist did not turn out as well, however. Berry and Pavlik each had two goals, but CSU could not overcome a 6-2 halftime deficit and lost,12-6.
"The girls played very well against Cal Baptist, but we didn't play well against Marist," Moody said. "We needed to defend the drive better. We were too stagnant on defense."
CSU will stay in California throughout spring break to practice, and see its next game action in Los Angeles at the Loyola Marymount Tournament. The Rams have four games over Friday and Saturday.
