MARANA, Ariz. - In his playoff with Ignacio Elvira Tuesday, Dustin Morris finally edged his opponent with a par on the 21st hole.

Morris' final shot broke the tie between No. 32 Colorado State and No. 4 Texas A&M, giving the Rams third place at the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship. New Mexico claimed the championship match.

Morris swept his competition in the tournament, picking up his fourth win against Elvira. Colorado State went into Morris' playoff all square with the defending national champion Aggies, having split the other four matches, 2-2. The win and 3-1 record in the tournament, consisting of 15 of 16 teams in the top 50, should bode well for the Rams in the rankings. Only No. 13 USC and No. 47 New Mexico finished above CSU.

After the win Head Coach Jamie Bermel reflected on the competitive tournament.

"We played well," he said. "It went down to the last match. We lost on the last hole yesterday and won on the last hole today. It shows how close these matches are. I thought it was just a really good week."

Also giving the Rams wins Tuesday were Ryan Peterson and Bryce Hanstad. Peterson finished with a 3 and 0 win against Jordan Russell to claim his first match of the Callaway. Hanstad defeated Cameron Peck, 4 and 0, for his second individual victory of the week.

Zahkai Brown wasn't quite able to pick up his third victory of the tournament, falling to Conrad Shindler, 1 and 0. Riley Arp also broke even this week after losing to Andrea Pavan on Tuesday, 6 and 0.

Bermel was very pleased with the team's trip to Arizona, including the Callaway and NIT last week.

"I didn't know what to expect going in, but we went in as the 12th seed and finished third," he said. "Dustin won all of his matches and Bryce finished second in the NIT last week. We're really starting to get into form."

Tournament information, including the complete bracket, is available on collegiatematchplay.com.

The Rams will be in action again next week at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., April 2-3.
