SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Rams knew that it was going to be a tougher game this time, and they managed to still find a way to win.
CSU (9-15, 4-4 Western Water Polo Association) beat Cal State San Bernardino 7-6 on Saturday at The Rodeo tournament in Santa Clara, Calif. It was the Rams' second victory over CSUSB in the last two tournaments. Kallie Berry scored twice, her tenth multi-goal game of the season, and Melissa Fisher made seven saves in the win.
The Rams took a 3-1 lead into halftime, and had a 5-2 advantage going into the fourth quarter. CSUSB tightened things up in the final frame, however, scoring four goals. The Rams held on, scoring twice themselves in the quarter to muster the 7-6 win.
Also scoring for the Rams were Katy Armstrong, Natalie Berge, Kailin Custy, Orsi Nadasdy and Ali Pavlik.
The win came after a tough morning for the Rams, as they dropped a match against hosts Santa Clara. The 8-5 defeat was the third consecutive Rams loss to Santa Clara by the same score, dating back to last April. Caroline Young and Sarah Ostling scored for the Rams, as did Berry, Pavlik and Nadasdy.
CSU will finish its regular season tomorrow, with matchups against No. 17 UC San Diego at 9 a.m. MT and No. 7 Loyola Marymount at 2 p.m. MT. The Rams currently sit seventh in the WWPA, and would like to help their conference seeding heading into the WWPA conference tournament starting April 30.
