FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Varsity water polo goalie Melissa Fisher helped the Rams to a major milestone over the weekend, and in the process picked up a milestone of her own.

Fisher, a freshman history major from Danville, Calif., earned Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Wednesday.

The impressive youngster racked up nine saves to earn the victory in the Rams’ first-ever win over a ranked team Sunday morning, when CSU knocked off No. 17 UC San Diego, 8-4, at the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara, Calif. The program began in 2005.

During the tournament, Fisher played all four games for the Rams, posting a 2-2 record. Fisher had 30 saves over the four games, and also picked up eight steals, two against UC San Diego.

CSU (10-16, 5-5 WWPA) concluded its regular season at the tournament and awaits its seeding for the all-important WWPA championships, April 30-May 2, in Bakersfield, Calif.
