CSU's Hemphill earns MWC Athlete of the Week

FORT COLLINS, Colo. &ndash; Colorado State senior Kristen Hemphill has been named the Mountain West Conference track &amp; field Co-Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Hemphill, a nutrition &amp; food science major from Los Alamos, N.M., broke her own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., over the weekend. Hemphill clocked a time of 10 minutes, 2.59 seconds, finishing third overall in the event while beating out her previous record of 10:08.00, set at the Stanford Invitational in late March. Hemphill's school-record time ranks first in the conference and second in the nation this season.

This marks Hemphill's first career weekly honor.
