CSU to host Ram Legends Track and Field Reunion Saturday

FORT COLLINS, Colo – Colorado State track and field will host 81 alumni at its Ram Legends Track and Field Reunion on Saturday at the Jack Christiansen Memorial Track.

Legends will compete throughout the day alongside Ram athletes. U.S. Olympians, all-Americans and school record holders; Loree Smith (women’s hammer) and Casey Malone (men’s discus) will be among the competitors.

Smith, a 2008 Olympian, set the women’s hammer school record in 2005 with a throw of 229 feet, 9 inches. The 2004 and 2008 Olympian, Malone, recorded the standing men’s discus record of 211-6 in 2000.

Drew Loftin, a 2003 graduate, will compete in the men’s hammer. Loftin holds the men’s hammer school record of 233-0 and was an all-American athlete in the discus and hammer. 

The meet will begin promptly at 10 a.m. with a break at 12:15 p.m. for the Alumni Recognition Ceremony.

At Friday’s Glenn Morris mutli-event meet, former Ram Emily Pearson participated in the heptathlon. Pearson, a 2008 heptathlon all-American and school record holder, placed first with 5,187 points. Kristen Kugler of CSU and Brianne Beemer of CU finished second and third, respectively, behind Pearson.
