BREMERTON, Wash. - Colorado State got off to a great start Thursday in the NCAA West Regional, finishing the day with a first-round team score of 291. The team is currently five strokes back from host school Washington, tied for second place with Oregon State.
The Rams were led by seniors Dustin Morris and Bryce Hanstad. Morris shot a 69 (3-under par) and owns the individual lead by one stroke. Hanstad shot a 71 and is tied for sixth place.
Head Coach Jamie Bermel was impressed with Morris' play. "He played good today. He had a bad break on 17 and ended up getting a double, but other than that he played a great round of golf."
Zahkai Brown scored in the top 15 with a score of 73, Riley Arp is currently tied in 51st place, with score of 78, and Ryan Peterson shot a 79, tying for 57th.
"Overall solid start, tough conditions today," said Bermel. "Dustin, Bryce and Zahkai played really well, but we didn't really get a fourth score. We'll need four scores tomorrow and Saturday if we want to advance."
