FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State guard Jesse Carr has been granted a medical hardship waiver from the Mountain West Conference for 2009-10, and will enter the 2010-11 season as a redshirt sophomore, adding to an already talented crop of second-year players under Head Coach Tim Miles.
“We are delighted and extremely happy to hear that Jesse was granted a medical hardship waiver, and will now be a part of our outstanding sophomore class,” said Miles. “As a true freshman he proved to be an incredibly talented player, and with his return, this group of players will be something Rams fans should be excited for over the next three seasons.”
Carr quickly emerged as a star for the Rams during his first year in Fort Collins, appearing in 25 contests, including 18 starts. He averaged 8.8 points and 1.9 rebounds while dishing out a team-leading 63 assists, despite missing the final six games of the season with a hip injury that ultimately led to his missing most of the 2009-10 campaign.
A native of Ainsworth, Neb., Carr began last season on the sidelines, and attempted a comeback in early December. He appeared in four games for the Rams, tallying just 15 total points and six rebounds, before aggravating the injury and missing the entire Mountain West Conference and postseason slate.
Carr joins second-year players Dorian Green, Pierce Hornung and Greg Smith, and Iowa State transfer Wes Eikmeier, to make up one of the most talented sophomore classes in the Mountain West Conference. Green, Hornung and Smith combined to average more than 21 points and 10 rebounds per game last season. Eikmeier joins the Rams after spending one season at Iowa State, where he signed as a highly recruited player and a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year out of Fremont, Neb.
