COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Five CSU swimmers and divers were recognized on the Mountain West’s all-conference 2010-11 team, the conference announced this week.
The MWC honors women’s swimming and diving athletes with all-conference recognition when they finish in the top eight of their respective events at the MWC championships.
Junior Breann Fuller was named on the team for a third straight year in the 100 and 200 Backstroke events. At the MWC championships last week Fuller came back from a second-place finish in the 200 Backstroke preliminaries to take first in the finals with a time of 1 minute, 56.01 seconds. That time broke her own school record and earned her a consideration for the NCAA championships. In the 100 Backstroke Fuller secured a second-place finish with a time of 53.73 seconds, her season-best by over two seconds. This performance earned her another consideration for NCAA.
Junior Jennifer Lamb made the all-conference team in the 500 and 1,650 Freestyle events for the second year in a row. On Day 2 of the MWC championships Lamb fought for a seventh-place finish in the 500 Free with a time of 4:54.00. In the mile-long race, Lamb finished sixth with a time of 16:43.53.
Senior captain Nicole Lynch was named to the all-conference team for her performances in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke events for the second time. On the third day of competition at the MWC championships Lynch broke her own school record and found a spot on the podium after a third-place finish with a time of 1:01.85 in the 100 Breaststroke. That time qualified her for the NCAA competition and earned 16 points for the Rams. In the 200 Breaststroke event Lynch collected a lifetime best with a time of 2:15.88. Her performance secured a seventh-place finish.
Junior Shayna Solomon and freshman Maxelise Thorn landed their first all-conference honors in the 1-meter diving and platform diving events respectively. On Day 2 of the championships Solomon earned a sixth-place finish in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 250.40. Thorn was very successful in her platform diving on the third day of competition. Thorn placed seventh in the finals with points totaling 189.10, a huge performance for Thorn’s first time at the championships.
“This year was the fastest conference championships I have seen,” Head Coach John Mattos said. “To make top eight you had to be under the NCAA championship consideration-qualifying time. So this year it’s quite an honor to make the all-conference team.”
The Rams are just back from the four-day MWC championships, which were held at the Oklahoma City CC Aquatics Center in Oklahoma City, Okla., last week.
