LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Rams were hoping to return from the Loyola Marymount Invitational with a 3-1 record after being defeated by No. 6 Loyola Marymount on Friday. Unfortunately, they let a big game slip away on Saturday when they fell to Cal State San Bernardino 12-11 before beating Whittier 14-6 later in the day.

The Rams (8-10, 1-3 Western Water Polo Association) really needed the win against San Bernardino (7-11, 1-2 WWPA), who only trailed CSU by one spot in the WWPA. If the Rams could have come away with a win they would have had an even 2-2 record in conference play for the season. The win against Whittier (8-9, 0-0 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) helps the Rams keep a strong resume as they hope to finally land a spot in the rankings.

Saturday started out rough for CSU as it lost its first game against San Bernardino by just one goal; a game that the Rams should have probably won.

“We should not have lost that game,” said coach Mike Moody. “We simply did not show up to play for that game.”

There was obvious frustration among the entire team after that loss but it was able to rebound quickly and pick up a win against the non-conference Whittier.

“We really controlled that game and played well,” said Moody. “We took care of business.”

That win, however, could not hide the fact that the Rams felt they should have finished the weekend with a much better record. Moody had stated how there were not a lot of bright spots surrounding the loss to San Bernardino.

“We put ourselves in a bad situation and it was hard to get out of,” said Moody. “We just need to do a better job.”

The Rams have just two more regular season tournaments before they compete in the WWPA Conference Championship in late April. The Rams will now have three weeks of practice before their next tournament which will be held April 9, when they head to Santa Clara, Calif., for the annual Santa Clara Tournament.
