CSU's Mestdagh, Martin receive all-conference honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Rams guard Kim Mestdagh and forward Sam Martin finished the regular season with special honors Monday. Mestdagh earned second-team all-Mountain West Conference recognition, while Martin was honored with a third-team selection.
The selection marks Mestdagh’s second consecutive appearance as a second-team player. Martin receives her first collegiate honor with the third-team recognition. Both players helped guide the Rams to a 14-15 regular-season finish, and a 7-9 MWC record.
Mestdagh, a 5-10 junior from Ieper, Belgium, started in all 29 contests for the Rams and averaged a team-high 17.3 points in 31.6 minutes per game. Mestdagh scored 501 points this season, and netted her 1,000th career point against UNLV at Moby Arena on Jan. 18, a feat that ranks her as the 16th all-time player from CSU to reach 1,000 points. Mestdagh drained 81-of-204 treys (.397) and wrapped up the season with an .874 free-throw percentage (90-for-103), 74 assists and 56 steals. Mestdagh has worked her way through CSU’s record books and holds rank in several categories, including:
-10th in all-time points with 1,221
-Seventh in points per game with 13.57
-Sixth in free-throw percentage with .802 (170-212)
-Third in three-pointers made with 221 (out of 603)
-Third in three-pointers attempted with 603 (making 221)
-10th in three-point percentage .367 (221-603)
Martin, a freshman from Parker, Colo., started in 28 contests for the Rams and averaged 31.1 minutes of playing time. The 6-2 forward led the Rams’ defense, grabbing 6.3 rebounds per game and blocking 35 shots. She notched 372 points this season and averaged 12.8 points per game.
CSU is in action against Air Force in the first round of MWC tournament play in Las Vegas, Nev., Tuesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. MT. Fans can tune into radio station KIIX, 1410 AM, for complete coverage.
