LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Western Water Polo Association this week announced the seeds for the upcoming conference championships from April 29 - May 1. And after a hard-fought 2011 season, CSU earned its highest seed ever, fourth, for the tournament.

“This is a big accomplishment because our conference is very competitive,” said coach Mike Moody. “We are really happy with the results.”

Last year the Rams (11-14, 4-6 WWPA) entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed.  After beating Cal State East Bay in the first round, marking its first trip to the WWPA semifinals, CSU ended the tournament No. 4 in the conference, its best ever finish.

This year CSU will once again take on East Bay (19-13, 9-6 WWPA) in the first round, hoping to duplicate its recent success against the Pioneers. The Rams won a tight game against East Bay this past weekend with a final score of 10-9.

“We are excited to play East Bay even though we just played them,” said Moody. “But it will definitely be a tough game. They are a very physical team and well coached.”

This is yet another mark that shows just how far this program has come since beginning in 2005. The Rams continue to grow each year and Moody likes the direction the team is heading.

“We are doing the right things here at CSU,” said Moody. “It’s a good thing and nice to be recognized by the conference.”
