LOS ANGELES, Calif. – On Wednesday morning the Western Water Polo Association announced its annual end of season awards. The Rams finished with three players earning honors, the most the program has ever received.

Senior Ali Pavlik was named first-team after tallying 61 goals, 29 assists and 32 steals. With her 61 goals this season, she became the all-time leading scorer in CSU history. Senior Orsi Nadasdy was named second-team after an impressive 50 goals and 54 steals. While freshman Lauren Porteus, who recorded eight goals and four steals, was named to the all-freshman team

“Ali and Orsi did a great job this season,” said coach Mike Moody. “All three players really did what they needed and did it with a great attitude.”

This was the first time CSU had an individual named to the first-team. And never before has the program had individuals on the first-team, second-team and all-freshman team during one season.

“There are only 14 players between the first and second teams and that is split up between nine conference teams,” said Moody. “So to have two players in that mix is a huge accomplishment.”

Having an individual named to the all-freshman team is a big stride for the program and provides a lot of confidence for the future of CSU water polo.

“We have a lot of confidence in Lauren,” said Moody. “She did a great job transitioning into her role during the season. She has a bright future.”

It seems as though every week the Rams are accomplishing something that continues to show how much this program is improving. And after having just one player named to the all-conference team in 2010, this is a big step forward.

“I think we’re doing the right stuff here,” said Moody. “The plan is to keep moving up and developing players so we can watch them grow.”
