ERIE, Colo. – After a brief weather delay, play resumed Friday afternoon and Colorado State shot a 289 (+1) finishing its second round of play tied for sixth place (-4) with Arizona State at the NCAA Colorado Regional.
No. 1 Oklahoma State increased its lead over the rest of the field, shooting a 275, finishing the second stanza at -25 overall. Auburn remained in second place, shooting a 287 (-1). Clemson shot 281 (-7) and moved into a tie for third place with Georgia. TCU (282) jumped up one spot into fifth place with a -6 on the day.
“Not our best day today,” commented Head Coach Jamie Bermel, “but we are still in the game. Again today, we struggled to get a good 4th score. Obviously, Zahkai struggled today but hopefully he can get it turned around on Saturday. We need all five guys playing well if we want to have a chance to extend our season and make it to the NCAA finals.”
Ryan Peterson was the Rams’ leader on Day 2, scoring an eagle on hole 12 (par 5). The senior shot a 70 (-2) and is in a tie for 11th place among individuals. Junior Zahkai Brown got off to a rough start Friday, hitting 9-over-par through his first eight holes. He made par on the next six and finished the second round with an 82 (+10). He is currently tied for 46th place. Mike Sorensen, the transfer from Wisconsin, is in a tie with Harrell for 32nd place. He shot 70 on the day to finish at -2. Kory Harrell shot 73 to finish +1 and Kirby Pettitt is currently tied for 68th with a 76 (+4) on the day.
The Rams completed the first round Friday morning with a 283 (-5). Brown pared his final two holes to tie the course record with a score of 65 (-7). He ties France's Alexandre Kaleka, who shot a 65 in the U.S. Amateur Qualifier in 2007.
The third round will begin at 7:30 a.m. MT Saturday. Live results will be available through Golfstat.com
