Men's golf preview: CSU tees off at NCAA championship

The Colorado State men’s golf team is headed to Stillwater, Okla., for the NCAA championship. Oklahoma State will serve as host to the championship played at Karsten Creek golf club. The Rams are headed to their second NCAA championship, their first since 1999, after the team’s second-place regional finish on May 21. Thirty teams and six individuals will compete in three rounds of play. Eight teams will then advance to a bracket-style playoff. No. 30 seed CSU tees off at 7:40 a.m. MT Tuesday. The course
The NCAA championship will be played at the Karsten Creek golf club. Karsten Creek is par 72 and stretches 7,416 yards. The course is home to Oklahoma State’s men’s and women’s golf teams. Karsten Creek was named “Best New Course” in the country by Golf Digest when it opened in 1994.
The field
The 30-team field consists of No. 1 seed Oklahoma State, No. 2 seed UCLA, No. 3 seed Alabama, No. 4 seed Georgia Tech, No. 5 seed Florida, No. 6 seed Augusta State, No. 7 seed San Diego State, No. 8 seed Texas A&M, No. 9 seed Illinois, No. 10 seed LSU, No. 11 seed Texas, No. 12 seed Georgia, No. 13 seed Iowa, No. 14 seed Duke, No. 15 seed Michigan, No. 16 seed Southern California, No. 17 seed Arkansas, No. 18 seed California, No. 19 seed San Diego, No. 20 seed North Carolina State, No. 21 seed Oklahoma, No. 22 seed Arizona State, No. 23 seed Ohio State, No. 24 seed Tennessee, No. 25 seed Kent State, No. 26 seed Kennesaw State, No. 27 seed Pepperdine, No. 28 seed Northwestern, No. 29 seed Arizona and No. 30 seed Colorado State.
Rams lineup
Ryan Peterson, Zahkai Brown, Kirby Pettitt, Kory Harrell and Mike Sorenson will be swinging for the Rams in Stillwater. Peterson, Harrell and Sorenson all tied for 16th place at the Colorado Regional with a 1-under-par 215. The team finished in second place with a 13-under 851. The Rams look to make the next step into the quarterfinals Tuesday.
